Advisor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir Calls for Education Reform to Restore National Standards in Culture and Sports

The ousted government left the nation’s education system in ruins, Prime Minister’s Advisor for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said on Friday. Speaking at an event held at the Goalondo Upazila Parishad auditorium in Rajbari, the advisor emphasized that the country has experienced a decline in cultural engagement and has lagged behind in the sporting arena.
Titumir urged a national effort to reclaim prominence on the global stage through education, sports, and culture. He noted that fostering creativity among children and youth is essential to nation-building, adding that the government is currently distributing sports and cultural equipment to educational institutions to support this goal. The event, organized by the Goalondo Upazila administration, featured the distribution of sports gear, sound systems, and harmoniums to local schools and colleges under the 2025-26 fiscal year’s Annual Development Program (ADP).
To restore the country’s standing, Titumir called for a structural overhaul of school planning. He directed that every primary, secondary, higher secondary, college, and madrassa must collaborate with guardians to develop three distinct annual calendars—covering education, culture, and sports—by January. Institutions have been instructed to finalize these plans by November. The advisor stated that these reforms are part of a broader initiative to prioritize education, skills development, and employment opportunities to effect significant societal change.
The event was presided over by Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Afroza Parveen. State Minister for Cultural Affairs and Member of Parliament for Rajbari-1, Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam, attended as the special guest.
Khayyam highlighted that the government is actively developing comprehensive plans to drive the socioeconomic progress of Rajbari. He confirmed that the administration is working across all sectors, including infrastructure, law and order, health, and education, with implementation of these plans scheduled for the current fiscal year.
The distribution program saw approximately 2.5 million taka worth of equipment provided to local institutions. This included sports materials and harmoniums for 51 government primary schools and 14 secondary schools and colleges, alongside sound systems for six madrassas. The event was attended by various local officials and representatives, including the district administrator, the superintendent of police, and leaders of the local BNP.
