A policeman was going to Dhaka with 20,000 Yaba from Cox’s Bazar and was detained on the way
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a policeman (constable) on his way to Dhaka with 20 thousand Yaba pills from Cox’s Bazar. He was arrested from Marichya Joint Checkpost area of Khuniapalong Union of Ukhia Upazila on Friday evening.
Name of arrested policeman. Sajib Bepari (23). His house is in Nanna area of Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district. He is serving in Armed Police Battalion (APBN) at Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar since November 2023. He left work yesterday to go home on holiday.
According to BGB sources, Sajib Bepari was going to Cox’s Bazar from Ukhia in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw yesterday evening. When the vehicle arrived at the joint check post at Mirichya around 7 pm, the BGB members searched the vehicle. At one stage, 20,000 Yaba pills hidden in a special way were recovered from Sajib’s bag. In the initial interrogation, Sajib said that he had collected these yaba pills from Balukhali shelter camp area in Ukhiya. BGB handed over Sajib Bepari to Ramu police station at night with the recovered Yaba pills.
Commander of Ramu-30 BGB Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said that there was an agreement to pay Sajib Bepari two lakh taka if the goods were delivered to Dhaka. During preliminary interrogation, he admitted to involvement in drug trafficking for money. Identification of the real owners of Yaba is underway.
Ramu Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Farid told Prothom Alo that a case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act. Sajib Bepari was arrested in that case and sent to court today on Saturday.
Riaz Uddin Ahmed, captain of Ukhia-8 APBN, said, “Sajib was on sick leave.” How he got involved in drug trafficking is being investigated. Departmental action will also be taken against him.
