2 expatriate Bangladeshis killed in road accident in Saudi Arabia

Two expatriate businessmen from Comilla were killed in a road accident in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The accident happened in Afif area of ​​Jeddah-Riyadh highway last Friday night. The families of the deceased persons got the news of their death yesterday on Saturday.

The deceased expatriates are Nure Alam (42) of Basudai village of Battali union of Nangalkot upazila of Comilla and Yunus Mia (43) of Basuara village of Sreepur union of Chauddagram upazila. Relatives said that the two friends used to do business together in Riyadh.

The Saudi expatriate Monir Hossain, the nephew of the deceased Nur Alam, said that they met with an accident on their way back to Riyadh from Jeddah with shop goods. Noor Alam and Yunus Mia died on the spot when the two vehicles lost control and collided head-on. A Saudi national was also killed in the accident and two others, including the driver, were seriously injured. The condition of the driver is critical.

The relatives said that the two friends were supposed to come to the country on the upcoming Eid al-Adha. Yunus Mia of Chauddagram had booked a plane ticket to see his four-month-old son for the first time. Omar Farooq Maruf, Yunus’ brother, said Yunus was the sole parent of the Mia family. He has aged parents, three daughters and two sons.

Nure Alam’s wife Sumi Akhtar said, “Our family’s six people were supported by my husband’s earnings. We are now distraught after losing our husband.’ He requested the government’s cooperation to bring back his husband’s body to the country quickly.

Deputy Commissioner of Comilla Mu. Reza Hasan told Prothom Alo that it takes some time to bring the body to the country in case of death abroad. All measures are taken in this regard from the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Affairs. However, the district administration will provide all-out cooperation to bring the body back to the country quickly in the government process. They will try to find out about it.
