Shiba Shanu and Joy Chowdhury Elected to Lead Bangladesh Film Artistes Association

Actor Shiba Shanu has been elected president of the Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association for the 2026-2028 term, leading a new executive committee following a high-stakes biennial election. Actor Joy Chowdhury secured the position of general secretary, marking a significant transition in leadership for the organization.
The election results were officially announced at 4:45 a.m. Saturday by the election commission, following a day of voting that concluded late Friday evening. Shiba Shanu secured victory with 243 votes, defeating his opponent, actor and fight director Arman, who received 173 votes. In the race for general secretary, Joy Chowdhury garnered 237 votes to outpace rival Rumana Islam Mukti, who finished with 179 votes.
The polling process took place at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises, serving as the hub for the contest. Out of the 573 registered members, 480 cast their ballots. Election officials noted that 17 ballots were declared invalid during the final count.
The campaign period leading up to the election had transformed the BFDC into a center of intense activity, characterized by a spirited rivalry between two primary slates: the Arman-Mukti panel and the Shiba Shanu-Joy Chowdhury panel. The weeks preceding the vote saw candidates engage in extensive outreach, panel introductions, and direct discussions with the electorate to sway sentiment.
Chief Election Commissioner Kamal Md. Kibria Lipu oversaw the process, which has now officially vested the leadership of the association in the hands of the newly elected committee for the next two years.
