The investigation into the March 1 death of Ikra, wife of television actor Zaher Alvi, has been transferred from local police to the Detective Branch (DB) of Police, following a case of incitement to suicide filed by her father. A Dhaka court has instructed the DB to submit its investigation report by June 24.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin set the new deadline on Sunday, May 17, after the Detective Branch failed to submit its report on the previously scheduled date. The court ordered the submission of the investigation findings by the end of next month.

The responsibility for investigating the case was handed over to the DB Police on May 14. However, the investigating agency was unable to present its findings on the designated day, prompting the magistrate to grant an extension.

According to court records, Ikra’s family members discovered her around 11:45 AM on March 1 at her residence in Mirpur, hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf. She was subsequently taken to Kurmitola General Hospital with the help of the landlord and relatives, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Ikra’s father, Kabir Hayat Khan, filed a case of incitement to suicide later that evening. His complaint alleges that Ikra was compelled to take her own life due to prolonged family disputes and various forms of abuse.
