Popular Chinese actor Zhang Linghe’s studio has announced an unprecedented compensation plan for fans following a chaotic brand promotional event in Nanning that resulted in injuries and a last-minute cancellation. The 28-year-old actor, who recently gained widespread acclaim for his role in the blockbuster drama “Pursuit of Jade,” was scheduled to appear at a shopping mall on May 31 to promote the eyewear brand Molsion.
The event spiraled into disorder as thousands of fans gathered at the shopping center hours before it opened. When the doors finally parted, the surging crowd caused a glass entrance door to shatter, leaving five people injured. The victims were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Due to the severe safety risks posed by the massive turnout, organizers were forced to cancel the appearance entirely.
Molsion issued a formal apology on the social media platform Weibo, expressing regret to both the fans and the actor for the chaotic circumstances. The brand committed to refining its operational processes and strengthening security measures for all future engagements to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
In a move rarely seen in the entertainment industry, Zhang Linghe’s studio announced it would reimburse all travel and accommodation expenses for fans who had journeyed to Nanning for the event. In an official statement, the studio acknowledged that many attendees had traveled from other cities and expressed deep gratitude for their dedication while apologizing for the disappointment caused by the cancellation. Affected fans have been instructed to submit a claim form by June 3, with the studio pledging to complete all reimbursements by June 15.
Although Zhang Linghe could not appear in person, he later hosted a livestream to connect with his supporters. The actor, known for his performances in “Love Between Fairy and Devil” and “Story of Kunning Palace,” has experienced a rapid rise in popularity, particularly following his turn as Xie Zheng in “Pursuit of Jade.”
This incident follows mounting concerns regarding the actor’s personal safety amidst his surging fame. In April, Zhang was harassed by overly enthusiastic fans and paparazzi while traveling to a railway station in Zhejiang for the filming of the reality show “The Truth Season 4,” highlighting the growing challenges of managing his public profile.
