Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced the indefinite suspension of all its flights to Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh due to security concerns stemming from recent attacks at the kingdom's airports. The decision was formally communicated through an official press release issued on Saturday.
National flag carrier Biman initially extended the suspension of these specific routes until October 21 across two previous announcements before shifting to an indefinite halt for Riyadh. However, the airline intends to resume flights on the Dammam route starting October 21, subject to obtaining formal clearance and operational permission from the Dammam airport authorities.
Despite the disruptions on the Riyadh route, Biman has confirmed that its scheduled international flights to Jeddah and Madinah remain fully operational. Passengers requiring urgent travel to Saudi Arabia have been advised to utilize these two functioning entry points.
To accommodate passenger demand and facilitate smoother transit, Biman deployed higher-capacity aircraft on the Madinah route, a special arrangement scheduled to remain active through Sunday. Regular operations using Boeing 787 aircraft on the Madinah route are set to resume from Monday. Additionally, the airline is arranging extra flights on the Jeddah route to address heightened passenger volume.
Biman authorities have urged travelers to maintain contact with nearby ticketing counters for updated schedules, bookings, and comprehensive travel information regarding these routes. Meanwhile, in a parallel development, private carrier US-Bangla Airlines has also canceled all its flights destined for Riyadh through October 21.
