Border Guard Bangladesh has successfully thwarted an attempt by India's Border Security Force to push 12 individuals, including women and children, across the Burimari border into Bangladesh. The incident took place around 3:00 am on Saturday, according to local sources and officials from the paramilitary border force.
The thwarted push-in occurred near main pillar 838/1 in the Bamondol border area of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district. Promptly receiving intelligence about the movement, patrolling members of the 61 Border Guard Bangladesh (Teesta Battalion) rushed to the scene and established a strong position, effectively blocking the Indian border personnel from executing the transfer.
Local residents reported that the group of 12 individuals remains stranded approximately 100 yards inside Indian territory following the intervention. In response to the development, border security has been significantly heightened, with increased patrols and intensified surveillance deployed along the frontier to prevent any renewed infiltration attempts.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Shahinul Islam, commanding officer of the Lalmonirhat 61 Border Guard Bangladesh battalion, confirmed the operation over the phone. He noted that because the personnel successfully repated the attempt and prevented the group from entering the country, authorities have not yet been able to question them regarding their identities.
The intercepted group comprises eight adult men, two women, and two children. The commanding officer added that a flag meeting between the border forces of the two countries has been called to address the situation, and further details cannot be disclosed prior to the conclusion of the discussions.
