Economist Anu Muhammad Calls For Global Unity Against Imperialist Oppression

Economist Anu Muhammad emphasizes global solidarity against imperialist suppression at a rally in Dhaka

There is a deep unity among the rulers of the imperialist world order around the world. Economist and writer Professor Anu Muhammad commented that they keep different types of divisions based on religion, caste, gender and race to create disunity among the people.

He said this at a solidarity rally organized by Solidarity from Bangladesh in front of the National Museum in the capital on Friday afternoon. The rally expressed solidarity with the student movement in India, Pakistan, France and Belgium.

Professor Anu Muhammad said in the gathering that the imperialist ruling class of the world always tries to prevent any unity among the people. Only 1 percent of people are the main beneficiaries or controllers of exploitation, oppression, discrimination and imperialist rule around the world. Whether it is the United States, Pakistan or Bangladesh, the ruling classes everywhere control wealth for their own interests and oppress the common people.

Anu Muhammad also said that the money spent by the United States government on social or food security programs for hungry people, is spent on war and military sector a hundred times more.

Similarly, referring to the huge military forces of countries like India and Pakistan, he said, in exchange for the lives and wealth of poor and deprived people, a class of groups is maintaining this torture and occupation of people of other countries globally.

Referring to this struggle of the people in the country as their own struggle, Anu Muhammad said, "The state and the people are separate, the government and the people are separate, our liberation is only through the unity of the people against the unity of the government and the ruling class."

Haroon Or Rashid, a member of the Democratic Rights Committee at the solidarity rally, said that people are being deprived of their civil rights because of their religious identity in India. To establish democratic rights and fight against communalism, communal activities must be opposed in Bangladesh as well. It is also important to take a stand against imperialism and fundamentalist forces.

Belal Chowdhury, the leader of the communist movement, said that the global crisis is not a crisis of any particular country, but a crisis of imperialism and capitalism. This system is reducing allocations for basic human rights and education and health sector and increasing spending on arms production and military sector. Energy and electricity crisis is also intensifying due to imperialist wars.

In the President's speech, Jamshed Anwar Tapan, General Secretary of Udichi Artists Group, said that repression is going on in the movement to establish democracy and rights in various countries of the world including India, Pakistan. The 2024 mass coup in Bangladesh is also giving impetus to the democratic movement in India. Wherever there is a struggle against oppression and deprivation in the world, it is the responsibility of the people of Bangladesh to show solidarity in that movement.

President of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Rina Murmu, central leader of BSD Marxist Joydip Bhattacharya, president of Rickshaw Sramik Easybike Union Abdul Quddus, organizing secretary of Evolution Cultural Center Mofizur Rahman spoke in solidarity in the rally. Central committee leader of Bangladesh Communist Party Montu Ghosh, poet Mohan Raihan, general secretary of Charan Sanstik Kendra Zakir Hossain, singer Amal Akash, general secretary of Ganasanskrit Sangh Abul Kalam Azad and many others also spoke.

A torchlight procession was held at the end of the solidarity rally. The procession starts from in front of the museum, goes around TSC and ends at Shahbagh.
