No shortage in oil supply, panic buys excess: Energy Department

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has claimed that fuel oil is being supplied in line with the demand of the same period last year. They say that even though the stock situation is normal, the fear created in the public mind is now a big challenge. There is no shortage of fuel supply, many people are buying extra out of fear of the future.

Ministry spokesperson (Joint Secretary) Monir Hossain Chowdhury said this at a press conference organized in the meeting room of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

The spokesperson said that the amount of oil that was given before the start of the war on February 28, is still being given. But people are buying more out of fear of the future. Earlier, 50 to 54 thousand liters of octane was given at Vijay Sarani’s trust pump, but more than 80 thousand liters were given yesterday on Tuesday.

It was informed in the press conference that the operation against the illegal storage of fuel oil is continuing. It is said that 5 lakh 42 thousand 206 liters of fuel oil has been recovered till April 14. Among them, diesel 366 thousand 1 liters, octane 39 thousand 776 liters, petrol 87 thousand 959 liters and furnace oil 48 thousand 500 liters.

The spokesperson of the Energy Department said that 9 thousand 116 mobile courts have been operated across the country from March 3 to April 14. In these operations, 3 thousand 510 cases were registered, a fine of 1 crore 56 lakh 9 thousand 650 taka was collected and 45 people were sentenced to prison.

The spokesperson of the Energy Department mentioned that there will not be any problem with the stock of octane and petrol in the next two months. He said, in the case of diesel, he does not see any problem even in April, even in May. The country has 1 lakh 1 thousand 385 metric tons of diesel, 31 thousand 821 metric tons of octane, 18 thousand 211 metric tons of gasoline, 77 thousand 546 metric tons of furnace oil and 18 thousand 223 metric tons of jet fuel.
