Dhaka Metropolitan Police launches drive to relocate buses from Mohakhali terminal to Purbachal depot to ease congestion

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division launched an initiative on Tuesday to clear long-standing buses from the Mohakhali Bus Terminal in an effort to alleviate severe traffic congestion in the area. Under the new directive, buses awaiting their next scheduled departure are being relocated systematically to a temporary bus depot in Purbachal.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Anisur Rahman oversaw the operation on Tuesday morning, where authorities deployed significant police personnel to manage traffic flow and maintain public order. Officials stated that the accumulation of stationary buses within the terminal and on surrounding roads had become a primary cause of local gridlock.
To restore order to the terminal’s operations, police have requested that all bus operators move idle vehicles to the designated Purbachal site. Commissioner Rahman confirmed that a substantial number of buses have already been relocated, and the process will continue until all excess vehicles are cleared from the Mohakhali premises.
The DMP emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader, ongoing effort to reform public transport management and ensure smoother traffic movement across the capital. Commissioner Rahman urged bus owners and drivers to cooperate with the relocation process, noting that necessary facilities have been established at the Purbachal depot to accommodate the shift.
Authorities maintain that these measures are essential to improving terminal discipline and facilitating more efficient travel for commuters. The traffic division has signaled that such operations will continue as part of their commitment to reducing congestion in critical transit hubs.
