Father and two children found dead in Sharsha after suspected murder-suicide

Police recovered the bodies of a father and his two young sons from a residence in Chhotkapota village of Sharsha Upazila, Jessore, on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities suspect the incident was a murder-suicide triggered by severe familial distress.
The deceased father has been identified as 45-year-old Kamal Hossain, a van driver and son of Asgar Ali. His body was discovered on the ground outside his home, while the bodies of his two sons, four-year-old Shabir and two-year-old Jabir, were found hanging from a ceiling fan and a wooden beam inside the house.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Kamal Hossain killed his children before consuming aluminum phosphide, commonly known as gas tablets, to take his own life. Police believe a persistent domestic dispute between Kamal and his second wife, Rabeya Begum, led to the tragedy. According to local sources and law enforcement, the couple had been experiencing marital discord for several months, prompting Rabeya to leave for her parents’ home a week ago, leaving the children in their father’s care.
Locals discovered the bodies inside the tin-roofed house and alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, police conducted a preliminary examination of the scene. Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shaminul Haque confirmed that the incident appears to stem from extreme mental anguish resulting from the family conflict.
The bodies have been recovered and are being transported to the morgue at Jessore General Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings, and a case of unnatural death is being registered at the Sharsha Police Station.
