Father and son die from electrocution while irrigating paddy field in Gopalganj

A father and his son were electrocuted on Thursday while operating an irrigation pump in a paddy field in Gopalganj, police said. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in Char Barfa village under the Jalalabad Union of the Sadar Upazila.
The victims have been identified as 40-year-old Enayet Kha and his 12-year-old son, Mehedi Hasan Kha. The younger victim was a fifth-grade student at a local government primary school and was scheduled to attend an examination at his school later that afternoon.
Family members reported that Enayet Kha went to his paddy field in the morning to irrigate his crops. When he came into contact with a live electrical connection at the pump house, he was struck by an electric current. Mehedi, observing his father in distress, attempted to rescue him but was also electrocuted, sustaining critical injuries.
Relatives rushed both victims to the Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital. Upon arrival, the duty doctor at the emergency department, A.K.M. Sirajul Islam, declared both father and son dead.
Nural Islam Kha, the brother of the deceased father, expressed his grief, noting that his nephew, Mehedi, had been scheduled to sit for a Bengali language examination today before he accompanied his father to the field.
Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, Aminul Islam, confirmed that police have conducted an inquest into the deaths. He added that the authorities are currently processing further legal procedures regarding the incident.
