One Bangladeshi worker killed and another missing following gas explosion at Russian Amur chemical complex

A Bangladeshi worker has been killed and another remains missing following a gas explosion at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia, according to diplomatic officials in Moscow. The incident, which occurred last Tuesday in the Amur region, has also left seven other Bangladeshi nationals injured.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow confirmed that the deceased worker, identified as Zakir Hossain from Bhairab in the Kishoreganj district, had his remains recovered on Thursday morning. The missing worker is identified as Md. Alal Hossain Raju, a native of Gangni in Meherpur.
Local authorities report that at least 15 people in total have died in the blast. The embassy noted that the industrial facility, which is operated under the China Petrochemical Corporation—commonly known as Sinopec Engineering Group—suffered extensive damage. Officials indicated that some of the recovered remains were burned beyond immediate recognition, raising concerns that the missing Bangladeshi worker may be among those yet to be identified.
Seven injured Bangladeshi workers are currently being transported from the Amur region to a specialized hospital in Moscow for advanced medical care. Six of the survivors are in critical condition and receiving treatment in intensive care units. The embassy has pledged to oversee their medical recovery upon their arrival in the capital.
The Amur Gas Chemical Complex is one of the world’s largest facilities for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, with an annual production capacity of 2.7 million tonnes. These materials serve both domestic and international markets.
