Manikganj police seize 1,500 Yaba pills from government hospital ambulance, three arrested

Manikganj District Detective Branch (DB) police have seized 1,500 yaba tablets from a Manikganj Medical College Hospital ambulance and arrested three individuals in connection with the drug trafficking operation. The arrests were made during a targeted operation at the Beutha intersection in Manikganj town on Thursday afternoon.
The suspects have been identified as 47-year-old Farid Mohammad Saikat, a resident of Natun Basati, 40-year-old Khandaker Atiqur Rahman, alias Rubel, of West Seota, and the ambulance driver, 41-year-old Rezaul Karim Khan, alias Milon, from Jhitka Kalahati in Harirampur Upazila.
According to the district DB office, officers acted on intelligence reports and established a position near the Beutha intersection earlier in the day. At approximately 4:00 p.m., police intercepted the government-issued ambulance. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the narcotics in the possession of Saikat and Rahman, who were passengers at the time.
Investigations reveal that driver Rezaul Karim Khan had been employed at the hospital on a contractual basis since May 23, 2023. Authorities noted that Saikat has a history of prior drug-related criminal charges, and Rahman is suspected of acting as his associate. Preliminary findings suggest the group had been utilizing the official hospital vehicle to facilitate the distribution of illegal narcotics.
Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, Director of Manikganj Medical College Hospital, stated that he has been briefed on the incident. He confirmed that he has directed the DB inspector to pursue full legal action against the suspects and initiated the formal process to terminate the driver’s employment.
DB Inspector Manabendra Balo confirmed late Thursday night that the ambulance used in the illicit activity has been impounded. Police are currently preparing to file a formal case against the three suspects under the Narcotics Control Act.
