Qader Gani Chowdhury Appointed Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha

Muhammad Qader Gani Chowdhury, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), has been appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Editor of the national news agency, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), on a contractual basis.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification regarding the appointment on Thursday. Under the terms of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Act, 2018, Chowdhury has been appointed for a one-year term, effective from the date of his joining.

This appointment marks an early transition in leadership at the state-run news agency. The incumbent, journalist Kamal Uddin Sabuj, also known as Md. Kamal Uddin Majumder, assumed the role on April 8 after being appointed to a one-year term on April 7. Chowdhury’s appointment effectively replaces Sabuj before the conclusion of the latter’s original contract term.

As a condition of his appointment, the notification stipulates that Chowdhury must sever all professional ties, including business interests or affiliations with any other government, semi-government, or private organizations. He is expected to discharge his duties in accordance with the established terms and applicable regulations.

Chowdhury is a long-standing figure in the media industry. In addition to his leadership role at the BFUJ, he serves as the Member Secretary of the Bangladesh Combined Professionals Council.
