Mother dies of electrocution on eve of daughters wedding in Panchagarh

A wedding celebration in Panchagarh turned into a scene of mourning after a 50-year-old mother was electrocuted on the eve of her daughter’s nuptials. The incident occurred late Wednesday night in Bhandaru village, located within the Chaklahat Union of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila.
The victim, Rosena Begum, was the wife of Elias Pramanik. Family members were busy preparing for the wedding of her 22-year-old daughter, which had been scheduled for Thursday. The household was vibrant with guests and final preparations, including a feast planned for the following day, when the tragedy struck at approximately 10:30 p.m.
According to family accounts, Rosena Begum was attempting to turn on an electric fan in the cattle shed when she came into contact with a live wire hanging near the switch. She was electrocuted instantly and collapsed. Relatives rushed her to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital, where attending physicians declared her dead upon arrival.
Following the death, the family suspended all wedding festivities. The victim’s nephew, Saiful Islam, confirmed that the burial took place at the family graveyard on Thursday afternoon following funeral prayers. He noted that the wedding ceremony would be rescheduled once the victim’s son, who currently works in Saudi Arabia, returns to the country.
Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Panchagarh Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that a case of unnatural death has been filed.
