Former Union Parishad Member killed in bus accident on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway

A 66-year-old former Union Parishad member died Sunday morning after being struck by a passenger bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Mirsharai, Chittagong. The accident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. in the Baro Darogarhat Bazar area under Wahedpur Union.

The victim was identified as Abdul Khaleq, a resident of Komoldah village and a former member representing Ward 8 of the same union. He was the son of the late Chan Miah.

According to local sources and highway police, the incident took place while Khaleq was returning home after performing Fajr prayers and taking a morning walk. A high-speed air-conditioned bus struck him as he was moving along the Chittagong-bound lane of the highway.

Bystanders immediately rushed Khaleq to the Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex. Attending physicians at the facility declared him dead upon arrival.

Nurul Absar, officer-in-charge of the Kumira Highway Police Station, confirmed the fatality. Authorities have visited the site of the collision and have launched an investigation. Police are currently working to identify the bus involved in the incident and are actively searching for the driver to bring him into custody.
