Two suspects arrested following quadruple homicide of former school teacher and family in Rangpur

Police have registered a murder case following the discovery of four members of a single family dead at their home in the Masuapara area of Kamal Kachna, Rangpur. The victims include Ganapati Chakraborty, a retired teacher of Rangpur Zila School, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, their daughter Agami Chakraborty, and their twelve-year-old son, Ayush Chakraborty.

The case was filed at the Rangpur Kotwali Police Station on Sunday by the victim’s elder brother, Gopinath Chakraborty. While the initial complaint did not name specific suspects, police have since moved to arrest two individuals in connection with the crime.

The bodies were discovered in the early hours of Sunday, approximately 3:30 a.m. According to the case details, suspicion arose when relatives were unable to reach the family by phone starting Friday night. When the victim’s sister-in-law, Puja Chakraborty, visited the residence on Saturday evening, she found the house dark and unresponsive. After gaining access to the roof through a neighboring property and peering through a window, she discovered the interior in disarray and detected a foul odor emanating from the premises.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud confirmed that two suspects, identified as 23-year-old Mughda Das and 19-year-old Siddhartha Das, have been arrested. During a press conference held Sunday afternoon, the Commissioner stated that the suspects confessed to the killings.

Investigations reveal that the suspects gained access to the victim’s roof via an adjacent building on Thursday night to consume narcotics. When Ganapati Chakraborty confronted them after hearing noise, the suspects strangled him with a scarf. The attackers then systematically killed Pritilata, Agami, and Ayush as they encountered them, reportedly to eliminate witnesses who could identify them.

The suspects, who reside in the local area, were employed as a fish market worker and a jewelry craftsman, respectively. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities process the evidence gathered from the crime scene.
