Counter Terrorism Unit Raids Residential Building in Savar Following Arrest of Suspected Militant

Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit officers, supported by local law enforcement, have launched a security operation at a three-story residential building in the Dakshin Shyampur area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka. The operation follows the arrest of a suspected militant and the subsequent discovery of a significant cache of explosives.

Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge of the Savar Model Police Station, confirmed that the operation began late Tuesday night based on intelligence suggesting that members of the militant group JMB were hiding in the area. Authorities initially apprehended one suspect in the Hemayetpur locality, who was found in possession of five improvised pipe bombs.

Following the interrogation of the detainee, police raided a ground-floor unit in a house owned by a man identified as Jalil. During the search, officers recovered additional explosives and a large volume of bomb-making materials. Investigators noted that the suspect had rented the premises on August 1.

The building has been cordoned off by local police and a bomb disposal unit to ensure public safety while the search operation continues. Authorities remain on the scene to secure the site and process the seized evidence.
