The victim, 30-year-old Rupali Begum, wife of Jahidul Islam from Samaspara village, was admitted to the hospital on Monday morning. After giving birth to a son, the infant was being held by his grandmother, Joygun Bewa. According to hospital reports, Shefali Begum, who was occupying an adjacent bed, requested to hold the child. When the grandmother briefly stepped away to consult a doctor, the couple attempted to leave the hospital with the baby.

The grandmother raised an alarm upon returning to find the child missing, prompting security staff to intercept the suspects. Police noted that Shefali Begum appears to have entered the hospital under the pretense of being a maternity patient. Investigators discovered that she had stuffed clothing under her garments to simulate a pregnancy.

Inspector Swapan Kumar Sarkar of the Gobindaganj Police Station stated that the couple confessed to the crime during preliminary questioning, citing their inability to conceive as the motive for the attempted abduction. The investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
