Bangladesh Tourism Corporation to Offer 36 Percent Discount to July Uprising Fighters

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam announced on Tuesday that the government will offer a 36 percent discount on stays at Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation hotels for those who participated in the July mass uprising. In addition to hotel concessions, the minister stated that initiatives are underway to provide employment opportunities for the participants and offer special discounts on Biman Bangladesh Airlines tickets.

The announcement was made while the minister served as the chief guest at a reception and discussion event held at the Parjatan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka. Organized by the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation to commemorate the July Uprising Day, the event honored those killed and wounded during the movement.

Addressing the gathering, Khanam described the victims and the injured as courageous participants in a unique chapter of national history. She emphasized that the state’s obligation extends beyond formal commemorations, stating that the government is committed to honoring their sacrifices by building a humane, discrimination-free, and dignified nation that reflects their aspirations.

Reflecting on the human cost of the uprising, the minister acknowledged the profound pain of families who lost loved ones during the movement. She credited the July participants with liberating the country from the grip of fascist misrule, noting that their contributions have paved the way for the current administration.

Looking toward the future, the minister expressed confidence in the tourism sector’s potential to drive economic growth, job creation, and national unity. She stressed the importance of transforming the sector into an inclusive, safe, and sustainable industry that meets international standards, aligned with the spirit of the July uprising.

During the ceremony, the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation presented prize bonds and honorary crests to family members of five martyrs and five individuals injured in the movement. The event was attended by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Planning Md. Junaid Abdur Rahim Saki, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Fahmida Akhter, and Chairman of the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Md. Samimuzzaman.
