Mobile Court Fines Six Bhairab Restaurants 275,000 Taka Over Unsanitary Food Practices

A mobile court in Bhairab, Kishoreganj, has fined six restaurants a total of 275,000 taka following the discovery of unhygienic conditions, the use of artificial food coloring, and improper food storage practices. The operation took place Sunday afternoon at the Food Zone located within the Nodi Bangla Center Point on Bangabandhu Sarani in Bhairab town.
The crackdown was led by AHM Azimul Haque, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Bhairab Upazila. Authorities inspected the six restaurants situated on the second floor of the shopping mall, which serves a large daily clientele from diverse backgrounds.
During the inspection, officials uncovered severe health hazards, including the use of artificial coloring on days-old cooked meat to make it appear fresh. Some of the meat had already begun to decompose but was still being held for use in various snacks. Investigators also found cooked food stored alongside raw meat in refrigerators, and some food items were stored without proper labeling regarding production or expiration dates. In one instance, officials discovered approximately one to two liters of congealed blood stored in close proximity to ice cream.
The mobile court imposed fines on the owners and managers of the six establishments. Ocean Bite owner Durjoy Mia, Choto Mama Restaurant owner Masud Mia, Narsingdi Food Zone manager Mohsin, Crispy Restaurant owner Azizul, and Narsingdi Kabab manager Apu Talukdar were each fined 50,000 taka. US Bangla Restaurant owner Shariful Islam was fined 25,000 taka.
The operation was prompted by multiple reports over the past month from customers who claimed to have fallen ill after consuming food from the Food Zone.
When questioned, Ocean Bite owner Durjoy Mia, who opened his business six months ago, acknowledged the lapses and attributed them to inexperience. He admitted that he had not received any formal training or education regarding food safety protocols prior to opening the restaurant. Following the enforcement action, the owners and managers of the affected establishments pledged to correct these violations and ensure compliance with food safety regulations moving forward.
