Measles Outbreak Claims Six More Lives as Total Infections Surpass 153,000

Six more people have died from measles and associated symptoms across the country in the 24-hour period ending Monday morning, according to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services. The recent fatalities bring the total death toll since March 15 to 873.

The health directorate reported that 1,063 new cases were recorded within the same period, consisting of 75 confirmed measles cases and 988 individuals presenting with related symptoms. Among the latest deaths, two occurred in Dhaka, three in Sylhet, and one in Barishal.

Since the outbreak began on March 15, officials have confirmed 98 fatalities directly attributed to laboratory-confirmed measles, while 775 deaths have been linked to patients exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

Cumulative data indicates that 153,435 people have been affected by the virus since mid-March. This total includes 17,115 confirmed cases of measles and 136,320 instances where patients presented with symptoms.

Hospitalization records show that 118,382 patients have been admitted for treatment since March 15. Of those, 114,142 have since been discharged following recovery or improvement in their condition.
