The mother of rising teenage football star Smriti Kisku has been located in Gazipur, reuniting the young athlete with her parent after a three-month separation. Smriti, who recently earned the “Player of the Final” title after leading the Rangpur division to victory in the Notun Kuri Sports football tournament, had been searching for her mother since returning home with her championship trophy to find her house empty.

The search for the mother, Matimai Hemron, concluded on Friday morning when a team led by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mahfuzul Alam Khan, successfully tracked her down in the Mogorkhal area of Gazipur. Following the recovery, the two were able to speak via video call, an emotional interaction that marked the end of a weeks-long period of uncertainty.

According to ministry sources, Smriti and her mother had been unable to communicate because Matimai lacked access to a mobile phone. After the death of her husband, Sobhan Hasdar, Matimai had struggled to support their family in the village of Chok Krishnapur in Pirganj, Rangpur, often working as a domestic helper to sustain her daughter’s athletic aspirations. When Smriti returned home a hero, she discovered that her mother had traveled to Dhaka in search of employment.

Investigations revealed that Matimai had been living in a rented room in Gazipur for two months while undergoing training at a local garment factory. The search effort involved collaboration between local resident Shahajahan Mia and Gazipur District Sports Officer Mizanur Rahman, who worked to locate the mother and facilitate her transfer to the capital.

Expressing her pride, Matimai told reporters that while she did not fully grasp the extent of her daughter’s footballing success, she hoped that Smriti would continue to excel in the sport. For her part, Smriti had previously appealed to the public for assistance in finding her mother, who had been the primary force behind her career.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports stated that bringing the family together was a priority to ensure the stability and continued development of Smriti’s football career. Additional Secretary Mahfuzul Alam Khan confirmed that the government would now focus on providing the necessary support to ensure the long-term security and well-being of the family.
