Canadian Alumni Group Provides Financial Aid to Family of Slain Mymensingh Worker

The family of Dipu Chandra Das, a garment worker who was lynched last year over allegations of blasphemy in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka upazila, has received financial assistance from the Jagannath Hall Alumni Association of Canada. Representing the organization’s president, Badal Ghosh, and general secretary, Tapan Karmakar, association treasurer Arup Kumar Ghosh visited the victim’s home in Tarakanda upazila on Monday to deliver the aid.

During the visit, Arup Kumar Ghosh handed a check for 100,000 taka to the victim’s widow, Meghna Rabi Das, and his parents, Rabi Chandra Das and Shefali Rabi Das. The association members extended their condolences to the grieving family while assessing their current living conditions.

Reflecting on the brutality of the incident, Arup Kumar Ghosh described the killing as an irreparable loss for the family, noting that Dipu Das was the sole breadwinner. He recounted the harrowing circumstances of the attack, where the victim was subjected to severe physical abuse before being transported to a nearby location to be hung from a tree and set on fire.

The murder took place on the night of December 18, when Dipu Das, an employee at Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Ltd, was attacked by a mob in the Dhubaliapara area of Bhaluka’s Hobirbari union. Following the assault, his body was transported approximately one kilometer away to the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Square Masterbari, where it was hung from a tree on the median strip and ignited.
