A police operation in Madaripur descended into chaos on Monday night after a group of suspects launched a targeted assault to rescue a detained drug dealer. The incident occurred in the Lakshmiganj area of Madaripur Sadar upazila when members of the District Detective Branch (DB) were forced to retreat under a barrage of crude bomb explosions.

The operation began earlier in the evening when plainclothes officers apprehended Parvez Bepari, a known drug trafficker with multiple outstanding cases against him. Upon his arrest, detectives seized 300 yaba pills from his possession. While the officers were conducting a follow-up search for illicit weapons based on information provided by the suspect, the situation escalated rapidly.

As news of the arrest spread, a large crowd of Bepari’s associates converged on the scene. According to law enforcement officials, the group triggered a series of explosions to create panic, effectively overwhelming the police team. Under the cover of the resulting confusion and heavy smoke, the suspects managed to forcibly extract Bepari from custody and flee the area.

Abu Naim, an officer in charge of the district detective unit, confirmed that the rescue attempt was carried out by several hundred individuals. He noted that despite the volatility of the situation, no injuries were reported during the skirmish. While the primary objective of securing the suspect was thwarted, police were able to recover the 300 yaba pills abandoned at the site.
