Suspect Escapes Police Custody While Handcuffed in Jhenaidah

Police in Jhenaidah’s Kotchandpur upazila have launched a manhunt for a warrant-accused suspect who escaped from custody while still in handcuffs late Friday night. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Farid Hossain, managed to flee from the Sabdarpur police outpost, triggering an urgent search operation that remains ongoing as of Saturday afternoon.

Authorities apprehended Hossain, a resident of Chuadanga village, during an operation in the Bhomradanga area at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday. A team from the Sabdarpur police outpost detained him behind a school near a local market before transporting him back to the outpost for processing. Despite the security measures in place, the suspect successfully evaded custody while wearing handcuffs.

The circumstances surrounding the escape remain under investigation. Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Quddus, stationed at the Sabdarpur outpost, could not be reached for comment despite multiple attempts to contact him via telephone.

Ansarullah Haque, an inspector at the Kotchandpur Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that authorities are working to locate and recapture the suspect. While he acknowledged that the department is actively searching for the fugitive, he noted that the specific details regarding the charges against Hossain are currently being verified.
