Actor Saif Ali Khan Recounts Near-Fatal Home Intrusion and Stabbing Incident

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was hospitalized following a violent home invasion at his Bandra residence in Mumbai during the early hours of January 16, 2025. The confrontation, which nearly turned fatal, occurred when the actor discovered an intruder inside his home while attempting to protect his young son, Jehangir.

According to Khan, the assailant, later identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam, had gained entry to the property through a rear service road. After hiding in various rooms, the intruder breached the nursery where the child was located. When the young boy began to cry upon spotting the stranger, the assailant reportedly assaulted both the child and his nanny.

Alerted by the commotion, Khan intervened and engaged in a fierce physical struggle with the intruder. During the altercation, the actor sustained six stab wounds as the assailant lashed out with a knife. One injury was situated dangerously close to the actor’s spine. Despite significant blood loss and his injuries, Khan managed to overpower the intruder long enough for household staff to confine the suspect to a room while awaiting police intervention.

The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where surgeons successfully performed an operation to remove a two-to-three-inch blade fragment lodged in his body. Mumbai police apprehended Islam three days later in the Thane district of Maharashtra.

Recounting the traumatic incident, Khan revealed that the severity of his condition led his eldest son, Taimur, to fear for his father’s life, asking if he was going to die—a question that echoed the actor’s own grim assessment at the time.

Despite the life-threatening nature of the attack, Khan has indicated a willingness to forgive his assailant. The actor attributed the motivation behind the crime to deep-seated socioeconomic disparities, suggesting that the divide between those with extreme wealth and those with nothing creates a catalyst for such desperation and violence.
