Death toll reaches four following factional clashes in Narsingdi

A violent clash between rival factions in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila has claimed another life, bringing the total death toll to four. Mustafa Mia, 36, a resident of Haripur village in the Nilakkha Union, died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Mustafa had been hospitalized for five days after sustaining a gunshot wound during a prolonged confrontation between groups led by Nazim Uddin and Alal Munshi. According to Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mojibur Rahman, the victim’s body remains at the hospital morgue pending an autopsy before it is released to his family.

The conflict, which erupted on Tuesday morning across the villages of Haripur and Darigaon, involved the use of firearms, homemade weapons, and spiked spears known as “teta.” Over several hours of intense fighting, multiple homes were vandalized and set ablaze. The initial violence resulted in the death of 22-year-old Anik, whose body was discovered at the scene. In the following days, the bodies of 37-year-old Kausar Ahmed and 35-year-old expatriate Latif Molla were recovered from the Meghna River.
Local reports and police investigations indicate that the violence stems from a long-standing feud between the two factions. Sources claim that supporters of Alal Munshi, who had been displaced from the area, returned on Tuesday morning using speedboats to transport armed individuals, launching a surprise attack on Nazim Uddin’s faction.

While authorities work to stabilize the area, several individuals involved in the unrest remain missing. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the clashes as tensions persist in the region.
