Six-year-old boy killed in auto-rickshaw collision in Chandpur

A six-year-old boy was killed in a road accident in the Paton area of Chandpur’s Matlab Dakshin upazila on Friday evening after being struck by an oncoming auto-rickshaw.
The victim, identified as Rafin, was a first-grade student at a local government primary school and the son of a laborer, Md. Yasin. According to witnesses and family members, the child had been playing with friends near his home when he stepped onto the adjacent road. A speeding auto-rickshaw struck him from behind, causing severe head and leg injuries.
Local residents and relatives rushed to the scene upon hearing the child’s cries and immediately transported him to the Matlab Dakshin Upazila Health Complex. Despite their efforts, the attending physician declared the boy dead upon arrival.
Family members described Rafin as a quiet and well-mannered child who was deeply cherished by his parents. His aunt, Jasmine Akter, expressed the family’s profound grief, noting that no one had realized when the boy wandered out to the road.
Matlab Dakshin Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman Manik confirmed the fatal accident. As of Saturday, no formal complaint or case had been filed with the police regarding the incident.
