PM Sheikh Hasina Calls for National Unity to Build Desired Bangladesh

Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has called for collective national unity, expressing confidence that his government can build a prosperous, “desired Bangladesh” with the cooperation of every citizen. Speaking at an Eid-ul-Adha reception at the Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday, the Prime Minister emphasized that realizing the nation’s potential depends on every individual fulfilling their responsibilities from their respective positions.
The event, hosted by the ‘Mrityunjayi Pothish’ unit of the East Bengal Regiment at the Zia Colony, served as a platform for the Prime Minister to engage with military officers, soldiers, and their families. During his address, he acknowledged the sacrifices made by the armed forces, particularly those who remained on duty during the holiday to ensure national security. He highlighted a recent act of bravery, commending troops for rescuing 18 journalists trapped during a volatile incident at media offices, describing the mission as a testament to their professionalism and commitment.
Reflecting on his personal connection to the area, the Prime Minister shared nostalgic memories of his childhood spent in the cantonment during the 1970s. He recounted navigating the paths near the Combined Military Hospital and cycling through the garrison area with friends, noting how the landscape has transformed significantly over the decades. He described the cantonment as a place deeply intertwined with his own experiences of joy, hardship, and growth, fostering a sense of belonging that remained with him during his long years of absence from the country.
Addressing the broader national agenda, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing a stable and secure environment where citizens can access quality education and healthcare. He noted that while he had been away from the country for an extended period, the current administration is now focused on steering the nation toward stability and progress.
Prime Minister Tareque Rahman concluded the event by urging the nation to seek divine guidance in fulfilling their civic duties. He underscored that the ultimate goal is to ensure the safety of all citizens, promising that the government remains fully aware of the needs and welfare of its soldiers, whose dedication he described as a foundation of the country’s future success. Following his speech, the Prime Minister participated in a tree-planting ceremony and signed the visitors’ book before departing the venue.
