CUET student drowns in campus pond

A student at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) drowned Tuesday evening in a pond adjacent to the university’s Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall. The victim, Arnab Saha, was a second-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. while Saha and a group of friends were bathing in the pond. His companions realized he was missing shortly after entering the water and began searching the area with flashlights. The commotion drew other students from nearby residence halls, who joined the rescue efforts. A student eventually located Saha’s body submerged near the pond’s landing.
Tanvir Shahriar, a student who arrived at the scene after hearing the shouts for help, described witnessing the recovery of the body from the water.
Saha was immediately rushed to the university’s medical center, where staff attempted emergency resuscitation measures. Dr. Rajesh Deb, a physician at the center, stated that despite performing CPR, there were no signs of life, noting that the victim had likely been underwater for a significant duration.
Following the attempt at the campus facility, Saha was transported to Evercare Hospital, where he was formally pronounced dead. Professor Moazzem Hossain of the Mechanical Engineering Department confirmed the fatality to Prothom Alo, stating that the student did not survive the incident.
