Mother and son died after being hit by a covered van in Jessore
A mother and son were killed after being hit by a covered van on the Jessore-Khulna highway. This accident took place in Narendrapur area of Jessore Sadar Upazila around 11:30 am on Saturday. One person was taken to the hospital with injuries in the incident.
The two deceased are Sujan Saha’s wife Barshti Rani Saha (30) and their son Sauvik Saha (5) of Ghoragacha village of Jessore Sadar Upazila. The name of the injured person was not immediately known.
According to the police and local residents, a covered van speeding towards Jessore from Khulna lost control and hit a van and then an easy bike in front. The mother and son among the passengers in the easy bike were killed on the spot. Another person was seriously injured. After the accident, angry mobs protested and vandalized the roads. They try to set fire to the covered van due to the accident. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The police arrested the driver of the covered van in this incident.
Jessore Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Machum Khan said, “Two people on an easy bike were killed and one injured after being hit by a covered van. The car was lying upside down on the highway. The local people got angry and blocked the highway. At the same time, they tried to set the car on fire. We are trying to make the highway operational. The bodies of the two victims are on the side of the road. Due to the pressure of the crowd, the fire service ambulance could not reach the spot on time.
