In two cases of Siddhirganj police station, the High Court ruled on April 30 and granted interim bail to Ivy. The state filed a separate application seeking suspension of this bail. The application comes up at number 41 and 42 in today’s agenda of the two-chamber court.

Senior lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju and lawyer SM Siddiqur Rahman heard on behalf of Ivy in the court. Lawyer SM Hriday Rahman was with him. Deputy Attorney General Syeda Sazia Sharmin was in the hearing for the state.

Ivy was arrested by the police from her home in Deobogh of Narayanganj city in the early morning of May 9 last year. Later, he was arrested in three murder cases and two attempted murder cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement.

In these five cases, the High Court granted bail to Selina Hayat Ivy on November 9 last year. The State filed five separate appeals against this bail in the Appellate Division. The Chamber Court suspended the bail granted by the High Court on November 12 last year and sent the petitions of the state to the regular bench of the Appellate Division for hearing.

In continuation of this, the State filed five separate leave to appeal. The Appellate Division passed an order on May 10 dismissing the leave to appeal. As a result, Ivy’s bail was upheld in five cases.

However, after the High Court granted bail in those five cases in the first phase, Ivy was arrested in five more cases in November last year. Out of these five cases, four are murder cases in Fatulla police station. Another case filed in Narayanganj Sadar police station on charges of assault and obstructing government work.

In the five cases of the second phase, on February 26, the High Court ruled on the question of bail and granted interim bail to Ivy for 6 months. The State appealed to the Appellate Division against this bail order. On March 5, the Chamber court suspended the bail given by the High Court after hearing. At the same time, the petitions of the state side were sent to the regular bench of the Appellate Division.

A separate leave to appeal filed by the state against the bail given by the High Court to Ivy in these five cases of the second phase came up on the agenda of the Appellate Division on May 10. On that day, the Appellate Division revoked the stay of Ivy’s bail by the chamber court and directed the High Court to settle the rule (on the bail question). The order was passed after disposing of five separate leave-to-appeals of the state. As a result, the bail granted by the High Court to Ivy in five cases of the second phase was upheld.

One of Ivy’s lawyers, SM Hriday Rahman, told Prothom Alo, “The issue of reaching the relevant parties including the prison authorities is in the process of upholding the bail order and bail given by the High Court to Ivy in the 12 cases. At the end of this process, we hope that he can be released this week.
