New vice chancellors in 10 universities including BUET, former vice chancellors dismissed

The government has changed the post of vice-chancellors in 11 public universities of the country, including Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET). The government has appointed new vice-chancellors by relieving the professors who have been serving as vice-chancellors for so long in these universities. Almost all of those who have been discharged were appointed as Vice-Chancellors during the interim government.

Today, on Thursday, the Ministry of Education announced the dismissal and appointment of a new vice-chancellor in a separate notification.

Professor Ekramul Haque has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of BUET. He is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Apart from this, Barisal University has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology. Mamun Or Rashid, Professor MM Shariful Karim of English Department of Comilla University, Professor AKM Matinur Rahman of Public Administration Department of Islami University, National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University Associate Vice Chancellor of Jamalpur Science and Technology University Professor Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor Mohammad Iqbal (in charge of North East University of Sylhet Vice Chancellor), Jamalpur Professor Mohammad Amir Hossain Bhuiyan, Department of Environmental Science, Jahangirnagar University, Professor ABM Shahidul Islam, Professor of Marketing Department, Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology, Professor Golam Rabbani, Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Noakhali University of Science and Technology, Professor Zainul Abedin Siddiqui, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Chittagong University, Rangamati University of Science and Technology have been appointed as the new vice-chancellors of the University of Science and Technology. and Pabna University of Science and Technology Open University Treasurer Professor Abul Hasnat Moha. Shamim has been appointed as the vice-chancellor.

The appointment period of all will be four years. However, as Acharya, the President can cancel this appointment at any time if necessary. Vice-Chancellors are required to reside on campus full-time.

Apart from this, one from Rangpur’s Begum Rokeya University was appointed but later canceled.
