A 27-year-old man in Chittagong, Bangladesh, has finally received paternal recognition following a protracted legal battle that culminated in an emotional reunion. Born after his parents had separated and his father had relocated abroad, the young man spent his entire childhood in his maternal uncle’s home without ever meeting his father. Upon learning that his father had returned to the country and remarried, the man sought legal intervention to establish his identity.
The resolution followed a court-ordered DNA test, which confirmed the biological relationship between the two parties. According to officials at the National Legal Aid Services Organization in Chittagong, the definitive test results compelled the father to accept his son after nearly three decades of estrangement.

Beyond the formal acknowledgement, the father signed a written commitment pledging to grant his son full inheritance rights, provide 200,000 BDT for housing, and introduce him to their extended family and community members as his legitimate heir. The agreement was formalized at the Legal Aid office, where the two men embraced for the first time in an event described by officials as deeply moving.
Legal Aid officer Subrata Dash, a senior assistant judge, noted that the reconciliation marked the end of a long-standing dispute that had caused significant social stigma for the son. As reported by the local media, the young man expressed immense relief at the outcome, stating that he is no longer burdened by the social scrutiny he faced for lacking paternal identity.

The case originated from a marriage between a migrant worker and his neighbor in the Rangunia upazila, which dissolved before the child’s birth. The father had repeatedly denied paternity until the scientific evidence made further contestation impossible.
