Sabira Sultana, who lost the direct election, got BNP’s nomination for the reserved seat

After the election defeat, Sabira Sultana said that she was defeated because the party’s nominated leaders did not work in the election. A section of the local leadership teamed up with the Jamaat candidate and lost him. Then the top leaders of Jhikargacha and Chowagacha upazila BNP held a press conference and protested against Sabira Sultana’s statement. Jhikargacha Upazila BNP general secretary Imran Samad read the written statement at the press conference. Sabira Sultana and local BNP leadership came face to face through mutual speech. Due to this, internal conflicts became public. That conflict is still visible.
Local BNP leaders said that the internal conflict of BNP is very evident in Jhikargacha and Chowagacha upazilas. Solving this conflict is now a big challenge for Sabira Sultana.

When asked about this, Sabira Sultana said, ‘BNP is a party. There may be likes and dislikes among the leaders and workers of this party. I want to forget the differences and work together with everyone.
Sabira Sultana is the wife of late Nazmul Islam, president of Jessore’s Jhikargacha Upazila BNP and former finance secretary of Jessore District BNP. On the night of December 14, 2011, Nazmul was abducted along with his private car from near Mohammadpur police station in Dhaka. The police of Gazipur police station recovered the body of Nazmul Islam from the side of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the early morning of December 15. Nazmul Islam’s wife Sabira Sultana was a housewife at that time. Later he entered politics. Then in the 2014 election, he was elected chairman of Jhikargacha Upazila Parishad. He was arrested in 2018 during the Awami League government. Three sons of Nazmul-Sabira couple. The elder son lives in the United States. The eldest son is studying Bar at Law in London and the younger son is studying in Dhaka.
