In Rupganj of Narayanganj, a leader of Jubo Dal, accused in a weapons case, was snatched away from police custody with handcuffs by his supporters. At this time, 6 members of the police, including the officer in charge of the police station, were injured in the attack. The police arrested 12 people including the wife of the youth leader in this incident.
This incident took place at the Chanpara rehabilitation center of the upazila on Tuesday morning.

Shamim Mia (42), who was snatched away from the police, is an absconding accused in various cases including murder, drugs and weapons. His house is in Ward No. 8 of Chanpara Rehabilitation Center. Shamim Mia is the senior joint convener of Rupganj Upazila Jubo Dal.
According to the police, Rupganj police arrested Shamim Mia, the absconding accused in the arms case, from the house of Chanpara rehabilitation center on Tuesday morning. When this news spread, his supporters surrounded the police with sharp weapons and attacked them. They blocked the police car and cut the wheels. At this time, a walkie-talkie and two mobile phones were seized. Later the attackers handcuffed the accused Shamim Mia and took him away.

According to the police, on receiving the information, additional police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by firing seven live rounds and rescued the trapped policemen. 6 policemen including the OC of Rupganj police station were injured in the attack.
The injured policemen are OC AHM Salauddin of Rupganj Police Station, Sub Inspector (SI) Raushan Ali, Sirajul Islam, Nazim Uddin, Constable Abdus Samad and Shahdat Hossain. They were given first aid at Rupganj Upazila Health Complex.
According to the police, the police arrested 12 people including Shamim Mia’s wife Sathi Akhtar during the operation. Others arrested are Gholam Kibria (36), Dadon Mia (51), Imran Hossain (30), Sabbir Hossain (18), Yunus Ali (30), Yusuf Mia (35), Suman Mia (26), Shafiqul Islam (22), Azgar Ali (25), Ruhul Amin (26) and Afshar Uddin (42) of Chanpara Rehabilitation Centre.
Confirming the truth of the attack, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station AHM Salauddin told Prothom Alo that the attack took place when the accused who was under arrest warrant for the weapons case was arrested. He said that a case has been filed against 40 people and 200 others who have not been named in the allegations of attack on the police and obstruction of government work and damage to government property.
