In Gotti and Atghar Unions of Saltha Upazila of Faridpur, there have been incidents of clashes between the two sides, vandalizing houses, setting fire to piles of jute and kitchen by lighting torches at night. This incident took place in at least five villages of the union yesterday from Friday evening to two in the morning. At least 13 people were injured on both sides.

Three of the injured remain at home. Another 10 people are receiving treatment in various hospitals including Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Local residents said that there is a dispute between local Nuru Matubbar and Zahid Matubbar over the expansion of dominance in Baligatti Bazaar area of ​​Gatti Union of Saltha Upazila. Zahid was known in the area as a supporter of Awami League before August 5, 2024. He has been a supporter of BNP since August 5. Nuru Matubbar was a member of Saltha Upazila Awami League. He also joined BNP after August 5 along with senior joint general secretary of Saltha Upazila BNP Khairul Basar. Although he did not get any position in BNP.

According to local and police sources, there was a clash between supporters of Zahid and Nuru in Baligatti market yesterday evening. At that time, two supporters of Nuru Matubbar set fire to the jute pile of Delwar Matubbar and the kitchen of Zafar Matubbar, a resident of Baligatti village, by Zahid Matubbar’s people. At least five tin houses and tin boundary walls of Zahid Matubbar’s supporters Sirman Shikder, Rabiul Shikder and Kubat Shikder were vandalized around 8 pm. Later, there were four rounds of clashes between the supporters of Zahid Matubbar and Nuru Matubbar in Bhavukdia, Baliagatti and Gatti villages of Gotti Union and Goalpara and Khowar villages of Atghar Union in the neighboring area till two in the morning. Later, the police reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saltha police station confirmed the truth of the incident. Babulur Rahman Khan said that no one has been arrested in this incident so far. Neither party filed a written complaint. The situation in that area is currently stagnant. Three teams of police have been deployed in the entire area to avoid possible clashes.
