Wanted Criminal Mubarak Hossain Arrested Following Armed Standoff in Chattogram

CHITTAGONG — Police in Fatikchhari, Chittagong, successfully apprehended a notorious criminal identified as Mobarak Hossain, widely known as “Gola Kata Mobarak,” following an intense armed standoff in the Shahnagar area of Lelang Union last Wednesday.
The suspect, an associate of the fugitive underworld figure Sajjad Ali, was discovered hiding above a false ceiling inside a residence. When officers attempted to breach the premises, Mobarak opened fire, discharging six rounds. Law enforcement officials returned fire and initiated negotiations to force a surrender.
A video recording of the standoff, which has since circulated on social media, captures the tense dialogue between police officers and the cornered suspect. In the footage, officers are heard urging Mobarak to lay down his weapon, assuring him that he would be taken into custody alive. Mobarak initially expressed fear for his life, citing concerns about external threats, before requesting that the officers swear on their honor that they would not harm him.
During the negotiations, the Officer-in-Charge leading the operation assured Mobarak that no harm would come to him if he complied. Officers further pressed the suspect by noting the recent arrest of another criminal, David Emon, and emphasized that they were equipped with high-powered weaponry to neutralize the threat if necessary. Eventually, Mobarak agreed to surrender and instructed an elderly man present in the house to hand over his firearms to the police.
Following the arrest, authorities seized three pistols, 23 rounds of pistol ammunition, and four shotgun cartridges. Three additional suspects were also taken into custody alongside Mobarak.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Mohammad Tareq Aziz, who led the operation, confirmed that Mobarak’s actions resulted in injuries to five police officers, including himself. Mobarak faces a series of outstanding charges in Chittagong city, including murder and extortion. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
