According to family members and local officials, the woman had been married for two years. Bakles Harkara, a member of the local Union Parishad, stated that the woman had developed a relationship with her brother-in-law, leading to frequent domestic disputes. Last Tuesday, the woman left her home with the younger brother and relocated to Savar. Relatives subsequently brought the pair back to Bhanga to address the matter.

The woman’s father explained that both parties had arrived at the police station to seek a legal and social resolution to the conflict. However, the mediation attempt escalated into a physical altercation involving relatives and onlookers present on the station grounds.

While the woman initially denied being married to the elder brother during the confrontation, she eventually acknowledged their marriage before claiming she had left him to wed his younger brother. She alleged that her first husband and his family had subjected her to ongoing abuse, prompting the brother-in-law to assist her in fleeing the household to establish a new life together.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga Police Station, Mizanur Rahman, confirmed that police intervened to disperse the crowd and stop the fighting. He noted that no formal complaints have been filed by the family. Both parties have since left the premises, indicating their intention to resolve the matter privately at home.
