Suspected Drug Dealer Shot and Two Arrested During Police Operation in Fatullah

A 24-year-old man was shot and wounded during a gunfight between police and a group of suspected drug dealers in Fatullah, Narayanganj, on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred near the Urban School by the Isdair railway station at approximately 3:15 p.m.
The injured man, identified as Jasim, was apprehended alongside another suspect, 23-year-old Mohan, both residents of the Isdair area. Police reported that the two men are known drug dealers and armed individuals. During the arrest, officers seized a foreign-made pistol and a magazine from the suspects.
The confrontation began when a team from the Fatullah Model Police Station launched an operation to apprehend a group of seven to eight suspected drug dealers. According to police reports, the suspects opened fire on the officers as they approached. In response, Sub-Inspectors Rafiq and Nandan Chandra Sarkar returned fire, discharging eight rounds. Jasim sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh during the exchange and was subsequently detained.
Three police officers were also injured during the operation. Both the injured officers and the suspect, Jasim, were transported to the 300-Bed Hospital in Khanpur for medical treatment.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Tarek Al Mehedi stated that the police acted in self-defense after being fired upon. He confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the remaining suspects who fled the scene, noting that appropriate legal action will be taken against all involved.
Jasim is the son of Rezzak, the alleged leader of the criminal group known as the “Rezzak Bahini.” Rezzak and his other son, Wasim, were previously arrested on April 2 during a raid on a residence in Isdair, where police recovered 53 rounds of ammunition. Rezzak faces 12 charges including murder, kidnapping, narcotics trafficking, and extortion. While Rezzak is currently out on bail, Wasim remains in custody.
