Awarapan 2 achieves record-breaking opening day performance for Emraan Hashmi at global box office

Emraan Hashmi’s latest film, Awarapan 2, has shattered box office records on its opening day, signaling a significant resurgence in the actor’s career. The film grossed over 270 million rupees worldwide on Friday, marking the highest opening-day collection for a film featuring Hashmi in a lead role.

In the domestic Indian market, the movie recorded a net collection of 210 million rupees, with gross earnings reaching approximately 252 million rupees. These figures represent a substantial leap from Hashmi’s previous opening-day record set by the 2017 film Baadshaho, which earned 125 million rupees. Awarapan 2 effectively doubled that benchmark, establishing a new professional milestone for the actor.

The film’s commercial momentum was evident well before its theatrical debut, with advance ticket sales surpassing 80 million rupees. Following its Friday release, reports indicated high audience turnout, particularly in tier-two and tier-three Indian cities, where night shows saw occupancy rates hitting 90 percent. International markets, specifically across the Middle East and North America, contributed an additional 220,000 dollars to the opening day total.

Beyond its immediate financial success, the film has quickly eclipsed the lifetime earnings of some of Hashmi’s most iconic projects. Awarapan 2 outperformed the lifetime domestic net earnings of the 2004 hit Murder, which stood at 160 million rupees, and surpassed its total worldwide gross of approximately 250 million rupees within just 24 hours. The sequel has also surpassed the entire lifetime collection of the original 2008 film, Awarapan.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishal Bhatt, the film features Hashmi reprising his role as Shivam Pandit. He is joined by an ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi, Disha Patani, and Suvinder Vicky. Critics have largely responded with positive reviews, highlighting the emotional depth of the narrative and the strength of the performances.

Industry analysts expect the film’s earnings to climb further through the weekend. Should the current momentum hold, market projections suggest Awarapan 2 could approach the 100-crore rupee mark, potentially becoming one of the most commercially successful projects in Emraan Hashmi’s filmography.
