Narail Court Sentences Man to Death for Rape and Murder of Five-Year-Old Child

A court in Narail on Wednesday sentenced a 37-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of a five-year-old child. Judge Sheikh Shamidul Islam of the Narail District and Sessions Judge Court’s Child Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict, which also included a fine of 300,000 taka.

The convict, Rabiul Sikdar, is the son of the late Atiar Sikdar from Narail Sadar Upazila. The judicial proceedings were concluded within 30 days of the incident and nine working days following the formal framing of charges, marking what legal officials described as the fastest conclusion of a criminal trial in the history of the district.

Additional Public Prosecutor Tariquzzaman Litu confirmed the timeline, noting that the speedy resolution met a significant public demand for justice in the high-profile case. Prosecution lawyers, including Public Prosecutor Ajibur Rahman, expressed hope that the sentence would be executed promptly.

The incident occurred on July 20, when the victim went missing shortly after returning home from a local market with her father. When the child failed to respond to her family’s calls, her father searched the neighborhood. Upon approaching the home of their neighbor, Rabiul, the father observed the suspect fleeing the premises. Inside, the father discovered his daughter’s body, covered in a sheet and showing signs of severe trauma, on a bed. The child was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Local residents apprehended Rabiul the following morning and handed him over to the police. The victim’s father filed a case at the Narail Sadar Police Station, and the suspect subsequently provided a confessional statement to the court.

Following the collection of forensic evidence, including autopsy and DNA reports, police submitted a charge sheet against the suspect. The court accepted the charge sheet on August 6 and officially framed charges on August 9. Throughout the trial, 28 witnesses testified, while no defense witnesses were presented.

The victim’s family attended the hearing and expressed satisfaction with the swift judicial process. Her father stated that while he was pleased with the speed of the verdict, he now seeks the prompt execution of the death sentence to ensure full justice for his daughter.
