BGB Returns Seized Weapons to BSF Following Border Standoff in Lalmonirhat

Tensions flared along the Vhelaguri border in Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat, on Tuesday after a confrontation between local residents and three members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) over cattle grazing. The dispute escalated when local villagers gathered at the scene to protest the presence of the Indian border guards, prompting the BSF personnel to retreat into Indian territory while leaving behind two shotguns and a walkie-talkie.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) patrol teams subsequently secured the abandoned weapons and communication equipment. The incident was addressed later that evening during a flag meeting between battalion commanders of the BGB and the BSF.

In a press statement issued late Tuesday night, the Lalmonirhat 15 BGB battalion confirmed the resolution of the incident. During the meeting, the BSF expressed formal regret over the conduct of its personnel. The BGB returned the confiscated equipment to the Indian side following the discussions.

Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam, commander of the Lalmonirhat 15 BGB battalion, stated on Wednesday that the commandant of the 78 BSF had apologized for the incident during the flag meeting. He further noted that the Indian authorities pledged to take appropriate disciplinary action against the personnel involved, in accordance with established regulations.
