Hundreds of Thousands Participate in 55th Eid-e-Miladunnabi Procession in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG – Hundreds of thousands of devotees gathered in Chittagong on Wednesday to mark the 55th Jashne Julus, a massive procession held in observance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi. The event, which commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, transformed the Sholashahar area into a sea of people as participants traveled from across the city and district to join the historic march.

The procession commenced at 9:30 a.m. from the Alamgir Khankah-e-Qaderia Syeddia near the Jamia Ahmadiyya Sunnia Kamil Madrasa in Sholashahar. Led by Syed Muhammad Saber Shah, the rally also saw participation from guests including Sahebzada Syed Muhammad Qasem Shah and Shahzada Syed Muhammad Akib Ahmed Shah.

The Jashne Julus has been a tradition in Chittagong since 1974, when it was introduced by Allama Syed Muhammad Taiyab Shah under the management of the Anjuman-e-Rahmania Ahmadiyya Sunnia Trust. Since the early hours of Wednesday, participants arrived on foot or in vehicles, filling the air with recitations of Hamd, Naat, and Zikr.

Local authorities and the organizing trust implemented extensive security measures for the event. Approximately 10,000 volunteers from the Anjuman Trust, supported by law enforcement agencies, were deployed to maintain order. Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Showkat Ali stated that security protocols were strictly enforced, including the prohibition of weapons and effigy displays. To ensure public safety and manage crowd density, the CMP restricted traffic on several major thoroughfares and closed the Lalkhan Bazar-Muradpur flyover.

This year’s event follows a tragic incident during last year’s procession, where two people died and at least six others were injured in a stampede. Officials emphasized that safety was a priority during this year’s observation, and no major accidents were reported as of Wednesday afternoon.

The procession followed a designated route beginning at the Alamgir Khankah-e-Qaderia Syeddia, moving through Bibirhat, Muradpur, Sholashahar 2nd Gate, GEC Intersection, WASA, Dampara, Lalkhan Bazar, and Tigerpass, before returning to the Jamia Ahmadiyya Sunnia Kamil Madrasa grounds.

In addition to the religious activities, the route from Muradpur to the Madrasa hosted a vibrant makeshift bazaar selling religious items, traditional clothing, and household goods. Various organizations also set up distribution points along the route to provide water, juice, and dates to the participants, while temporary sanitation facilities were installed to accommodate the massive crowd.
