Man killed in Comilla following alleged family and drug-related dispute

A 29-year-old man was beaten to death in Burichong, Comilla, on Tuesday, allegedly by his elder brother and several accomplices following a dispute over family issues and narcotics. The victim, identified as Zakir Hossain, was the son of Ayub Ali of Kakiyarchar West Para village.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Police reports indicate that an argument broke out between Zakir and his elder brother, 32-year-old Md. Shakil, regarding family conflicts and drug-related business. During the altercation, Shakil and his associates allegedly assaulted Zakir, leaving him unconscious. According to preliminary findings, the suspects failed to seek medical attention for the victim and attempted to conceal the body.
Local residents alerted village police official Mokhles around 6:00 p.m., who subsequently informed the Burichong police station. Officers from the Debpur police outpost arrived at the scene Tuesday night to recover the body.
A forensic inspection of the victim’s remains revealed multiple injuries, including a blunt force trauma wound to the back of the head, lacerations on both legs from a sharp weapon, and a deep cut on his forehead.
Police investigation suggests that both the victim and the suspects were involved in the local drug trade, which had been a frequent source of friction within the family. Authorities suspect the fatal confrontation may have been triggered by a dispute over proceeds from narcotics sales.
Following the incident, Shakil and his alleged accomplices fled the area. Inspector Surajit Barua, in charge of the Debpur police outpost, stated that an initial inquest report has been completed. The body was transported to the Comilla Medical College morgue on Wednesday morning for an autopsy. Police are continuing their investigation into the homicide and intend to pursue legal action against those responsible.
