Shanaka banned from PSL by joining IPL

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for one year. As a result, he will not be able to play in the PSL next season.

The reason for the punishment is that he broke the contract this season. He signed with Lahore Qalandars in the auction for 7.5 million Pakistani rupees but joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) before the start of the tournament. Shanaka joined the IPL as a replacement for Rajasthan Royals’ Sam Karan due to injury.

According to the PCB, the last-minute withdrawal, despite the agreement, disrupted the team’s plans and damaged the league’s contractual structure.

Shanaka apologized by admitting his mistake in this incident. In a statement, he said, “He deeply regrets his decision to withdraw from PSL and sincerely apologizes to the people of Pakistan, PSL fans and world cricket.” He also said that PSL is a prestigious tournament and his decision disappointed many, especially Lahore Qalandars fans.

Meanwhile, PCB also banned Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Mujarabani from PSL for two years in a similar incident. Although he did not get a team in the auction, he later signed with Islamabad United. But later joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Mostafizur Rahman.
