2028 Olympic cricket venue finalised

The cricket matches of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will be held at the Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Pomana, California.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) made the official announcement on Thursday (April 23). A day before this, a colorful ‘ground breaking ceremony’ was held at the venue.
ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta termed the venue as the ‘real address of LA-28 cricket’. ICC Chairman Jai Shah and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who were present at the event, described the move as a milestone in the expansion of cricket across the world.
The ground has already been confirmed as the home ground of Major League Cricket (MLC) team ‘Los Angeles Knight Riders’, where seven matches are scheduled to be played next season. This time, the cricket matches of both the women’s and men’s divisions of the Olympic Games will also be organized here.
ICC Chairman Jai Shah said on the occasion, ‘Cricket is taking a big step to strengthen its position globally. Being a part of the Olympics is both a matter of pride and a dream for us. This venue will play a historic role in the expansion of cricket in the United States.
ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta said, ‘Cricket’s return to the Olympics after 128 years is a reflection of the love of millions of fans. It is not just a ground, but the fulfillment of a long-standing promise to return cricket to the world stage.’
Shahrukh Khan, co-owner of Knight Riders Sports, said, “Today is not just the start of a field, but the fulfillment of a dream to bring cricket, the world’s second most popular sport, to the heart of Los Angeles’ sporting heritage.”
The inclusion of cricket in the Olympics after a long 128 years is a historic moment for the sports world. The project was launched in the presence of Poman Mayor Tim Sandoval and senior LA-28 officials. Hopefully, this initiative will strengthen the acceptance of cricket in the United States.
